Millwall's next Championship opponents, Derby County, have added experienced defensive cover by signing Shane Duffy on a short-term contract. The 34-year-old centre-back, a free agent since leaving Norwich City, will be available for Derby's trip to The Den this Saturday.
Derby County said: "Derby County have completed the signing of Shane Duffy on a short-term deal." The initial contract is for two months and arrives as the Rams, who are 23rd in the table, face a severe defensive shortage with six defenders injured.
Duffy's experience
He also has 61 caps for the Republic of Ireland. His last competitive action came in the Championship with Norwich, for whom he made 91 appearances and scored five goals.
Context for Millwall
Millwall, sitting 13th with 15 points from 12 games, will face a Derby side looking to stabilise after a difficult start. The Lions, who have four wins, three draws and five losses this season, are ten points behind the league leaders. Their recent form of one win, two draws and two losses in their last five matches includes a 2-1 defeat at Portsmouth last Saturday where Jenson Metcalfe scored their goal. Before that, they drew 2-2 with Lincoln, with goals from Kyrell Lisbie and Jake Cooper. Millwall's top scorer this season is Lyndon Dykes with four goals, but the team has conceded 20 goals while scoring 19. They will be looking to improve their home record against a Derby team they beat 1-0 in the last meeting in March. Key absentees for Millwall include the sidelined players J. Coburn, C. De Norre, L. Jensen, M. Luongo, F. Marschall, and M. Servais. Following this match, Millwall's next fixture is an away trip to face league leaders Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday, October 26th.
The match at The Den kicks off at 15:00 GMT on Saturday, with Duffy eligible for selection after joining on a free transfer.
