Millwall Sign Jordi Osei-Tutu in Free Transfer Boost

Millwall Football Club have completed the signing of Jordi Osei-Tutu, a 27-year-old defender with experience in the Bundesliga and League One. The Lions have been busy in the market this summer, without shelling out to bolster a squad that comfortably secured a spot in the play-offs last season.

What happened?

Millwall confirmed the signing of right-back Jordi Osei-Tutu on Friday morning with the free agent set to add strength in depth to Alex Neil's side. The 27-year-old was an important part of the Bolton Wanderers campaign that culminated in promotion from League One last time out. He made 42 appearances across the campaign and will provide important back-up to Ryan Leonard.

Why it matters for Millwall Football Club

Osei-Tutu's signing is a significant boost to Millwall's squad, particularly in the right-back position. The defender, who is a product of the Arsenal academy, can play on the right flank, as well as the left and will bring versatility to Neil's side.

What comes next?

On announcing the signing, Millwall director of football Steve Gallen said: "Jordi has been in training with us for two weeks and is an experienced full-back. He is quick and is a very good one-v-one defender." Osei-Tutu has won promotion from League One on two occasions, finishing in second place with Rotherham United in 2022. He also has Bundesliga experience thanks to time with German side VfL Bochum.

Osei-Tutu to provide attacking impetus from defence

While in Germany, the defender was given so much freedom on the flank that he would often push into such an advanced position that he would end up in positions more often occupied by a striker. Millwall supporters can expect an attack-minded wing-back, rather than a more conservative full-back.

Injury concerns

There is some reason for caution with Osei-Tutu having a mixed fitness history. A persistent hamstring issue hampered time at Cardiff City and Nottingham Forest between 2020 and 2022, and crept up again towards the start of last season at Bolton Wanderers. The then League One side had invested in new sports science staff prior to the 2025/26 season and Osei-Tutu was outspoken about the changes those experts helped him make in order to stop the injury cropping up again, including his diet and S&C work.
