Millwall Football Club has confirmed its zero-tolerance stance and is supporting a police investigation after an alleged racist incident involving Swansea City winger Ji-sung Eom at The Den. The match was paused for around seven minutes in the second half after Swansea reported the alleged abuse, which occurred while the South Korean substitute was warming up near the touchline.
An announcement was made over the stadium's public address system addressing the alleged racist chanting. Swansea published a statement condemning racism and confirming they had reported the incident. "As a club we condemn racism and discrimination in all forms, and there is no place for such behavior in football or in society," the statement said. The club added they stand with Eom and will follow all protocols as the matter is investigated.
Millwall’s response and stance
Millwall acknowledged the alleged incident on social media, stating they operate a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of discriminatory abuse. The club confirmed the matter is the subject of an ongoing police investigation which they are supporting, and said any individual found responsible will face the strongest possible action. Swansea thanked match officials, Millwall, and the police for their swift handling of the situation.
Swansea coach Vitor Matos spoke after the game, praising the response but expressing sadness. "I was happy with how it was handled but really sad that it happened," Matos told reporters. He added that Eom knows the club will stay with him as the situation is evaluated.
The incident overshadowed a tight Championship contest that saw Swansea win 1-0 with a late goal, a result that leaves Millwall 11th in the table with 14 points from 10 games. The Lions' recent form shows one win in their last five matches, a run you can review on our standings page. The club now turns its focus to the next fixture, a home match against Lincoln on Saturday, 17 October.
