Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has broken the record for most goals in the UEFA Europa League. The striker's goal during the 2023/24 campaign took his total in the competition to 34, surpassing the previous benchmark of 30 set by Radamel Falcao.

This milestone confirms Aubameyang's status as the most prolific scorer in the Europa League era, which began in 2009. His tally includes goals scored in the qualifying rounds. The record was previously held by Falcao, whose legendary performances for Porto and Atlético de Madrid defined the competition's early years.

Falcao’s legacy in the competition

Radamel Falcao had set a formidable standard with 31 goals across the UEFA Cup and Europa League. His most devastating spell came in consecutive seasons. He netted 17 times for Porto during their triumphant 2010/11 campaign, a single-season record that still stands. The Colombian then added 12 more the following season after moving to Atlético de Madrid, helping them lift the trophy in 2012. His combination of power and precision made him the competition's first true superstar striker.

Other notable scorers in Europa League history

While Aubameyang now leads the Europa League-specific list, the overall record for the combined UEFA Cup and Europa League remains with a different legend. Henrik Larsson scored 40 goals across both iterations of the tournament for Feyenoord, Celtic, Helsingborg and Manchester United. Other modern forwards have also left their mark close to the top. Alfredo Morelos scored 32 goals for HJK and Rangers, and Aritz Aduriz found the net 31 times for Athletic Club.

The record shows Aubameyang's remarkable longevity and consistency at the highest level in Europe. Ten of his 34 goals were scored last season for Marseille. His career has seen him score in the competition for Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Barcelona and the French club. The achievement adds another notable entry to a career that includes a Premier League Golden Boot and multiple domestic titles.

With the group stage of the current Europa League season underway, Aubameyang has the opportunity to extend his new record further. The next round of fixtures continues this week.
